01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Breakfast starts with a choice: toast or a sandwich. The toast set comes with egg, salad and fruit, and you can choose butter, jam or honey for your bread. There is also a whole-wheat toast set, as well as sets with a hot dog or sandwich, so there are plenty of options for a more substantial start to the day. One diner who ordered the sandwich set described a sandwich filled with egg, ham and tomato, served with salad and fruit. The coffee was brewed in a siphon and, they noted, tasted mellow and clean. Sipping the coffee first, then moving on to the sandwich when it arrives, makes for a leisurely breakfast at Milky way.

For a later start, consider the brunch featuring 3-colour bread. The bread contains raisins, walnuts and brown sugar, and comes with ham or bacon, salad and fruit. It makes a different sort of meal from the bacon-and-egg brunch or the germ sandwich set. A diner who ordered the 3-colour bread brunch with coffee praised the crisp surface of the bread and its buttery flavour, and enjoyed the salad and ham and eggs, too. Choose the 3-colour bread when you want the bread to take centre stage, or another brunch if you’d prefer eggs or a sandwich alongside it.

For lunch, lighter options include curry rice and omurice, both served with salad. One diner’s account of the daily lunch describes a day when it included a pork fillet cutlet, rice, miso soup and koya-dofu (freeze-dried tofu). It’s a more filling choice for lunch than the lighter dishes on the menu.

Visitors describe a layout with counter and table seating, which works for stopping in alone for coffee as well as for a meal. Several people have also mentioned using the café as a place where smoking is allowed, so bear that in mind if you are sensitive to smoke.
